Inspired by the art of stone balancing, and its Tai Chi like traits. I found this design more than fit for this Tai Chi training dummy. Tai Chi has been a great addition to my designing approach and vice versa.

"Connect, Follow and Change Continuously"
Words taken from an ancient Chinese poem. These are the objectives of a common drill called "Sticky Hands" preformed by Taichi practitioners and some other Chinese internal martial arts.
This training dummy is constructed by individual parts. Balanced and connected by hinges, each part has separate movement.
The base has weight and a domed bottom, which allows "Lian" to rock and move endlessly while in use.

The 1:10 model was modeled using Solidworks equipped with the tools I needed for finding perfect balance. However, once I began working on the 1:1 model, I used my taichi skills. Just as I do when balancing rocks (see photo above)
The base is a hollow 3d print filled with sand for desired weight.
The body parts are sculpted from industrial styrofoam and all are sized and fitted for a soft fabric skin.
